OUR STORY

KL Sketch Nation was founded in 2014 by Ahmad Hakym as a grassroots community for sketching enthusiasts in Kuala Lumpur. What started as a passion for urban sketching soon grew into a platform that celebrates sketching as a tool for creativity, storytelling, and cultural awareness. In 2019, with the help of co-founder Syukri Shairi, the group was formalised as a social enterprise, broadening its reach and impact.

Run entirely by volunteers, KL Sketch Nation organises regular events, from sketch walks to large-scale collaborations with NGOs, independent collectives, and local councils. These gatherings foster a deeper appreciation for art, architecture, and urban life, bringing together people from diverse backgrounds to connect through creative expression.

Over time, the movement has expanded beyond urban sketching, branching into various creative sub-groups, including zine-making, fine arts, and other artistic ventures. This evolution has transformed KL Sketch Nation into a thriving multidisciplinary collective, providing a space for artists to explore, collaborate, and push creative boundaries.

Today, KL Sketch Nation continues to champion the power of art in shaping a more observant, connected, and creative society.
